Large language models are booming, and all kinds of wrapper apps are popping up like mushrooms after the rain. Some well-known ones include Raycast AI, MacGPT, and TypingMind. Even ChatGPT itself now has a Mac desktop app.

Whether you chat with AI through a browser or a dedicated app, the interaction is basically question-and-answer. A single conversation often extends far beyond the visible screen, meaning you frequently need to scroll to view the full content.

When you want to share the conversation with colleagues or friends, you inevitably need a scrolling screenshot of the chat window. Longshot is a Mac screenshot and annotation app optimized for taking long, scrolling screenshots. It completes the process in just three steps, boosting efficiency and making the workflow seamless.

How to Use Longshot to Take a Scrolling Screenshot of a ChatGPT Conversation

  1. Download and install Longshot
Open the App Store, search for “Longshot,” then download and install it. When you open it for the first time, follow the prompts to grant screen capture permissions.

  2. Start a scrolling screenshot
In the menu bar, click the Longshot icon. From the dropdown menu, select Scrolling Screenshot. Once you’re familiar with it, you can use the shortcut Command + Shift + L instead.

  3. Select the AI chat window and scroll to capture
Click the AI chat window you want to capture (here, we’ll use the ChatGPT Mac app as an example). After selecting the window, hover your mouse over it and scroll vertically to move through the content. As you scroll, you’ll see the conversation being stitched together in real time.

When you’ve scrolled through everything, click the Copy button on the toolbar below the captured window to copy the full long screenshot to your clipboard for easy sharing or editing.

Other Features of Longshot

Longshot for Mac stands out for its scrolling capture capabilities. In addition to vertical scrolling, it also supports horizontal scrolling and 360-degree panoramic stitching, making it easy to capture any content that goes beyond the screen boundaries.

Beyond scrolling screenshots, Longshot also includes:

  • Screenshot annotation
  • Pinning images on screen
  • OCR text recognition
  • On-screen measurement tools
  • Screen recording and audio recording

Despite packing so many features, the installer is only 7.8 MB.
